How the zones are calculated
Your maximum heart rate is estimated as 208 minus 0.7 times your age, a formula that tends to fit adults better than the older 220 minus age. Real maximums vary from person to person by 10 beats or more.
Without a resting pulse, each zone is a percentage of that maximum. With one, the zones use your heart-rate reserve (maximum minus resting pulse). This is the Karvonen method.
The Doc24hrs app estimates your heart rate during a scan. That is a wellness estimate at rest, not a measurement during exercise.
Formulas: Tanaka, Monahan and Seals, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, 2001 (maximum heart rate); Karvonen method (heart-rate reserve).
